The village of Mustafapaşa (formally known as Sinasos) is one of the nicest villages in Cappadocia. In the last century it was the centre of Cappadocia and rich Greek businessmen from Istanbul built their splendid mansions here. The whole village consists of such mansions and they are all built from square stone blocks of tufa. There are wonderful wall paintings and dainty relief works inside the mansions. The village was mostly inhabited by Greeks who also built many of the churches.
Today Turkish people, who came from Thessalonica, live in the village. The village is an ideal starting point to discover Cappadocia. Uerguep is only 3 miles away and most of the places to visit are under half an hour away by car.
The region around Uerguep is also famous for its viniculture. Three of the biggest producers of wine are in Uerguep. The volcanic soils are ideal for viniculture; in an area of 27 square miles they produce 60,000 tons of grapes. The wines of Cappadocia are highly thought of and are also exported. Another speciality, pekmaz (grape syrup) is produced here.
